Arthrogram
An arthrogram is a series of images, often X-rays, that helps doctor get a closer look inside a joint, such as the shoulder, knee, hip, or wrist. During the procedure, a special contrast liquid is gently injected into the joint. This makes it easier to see important structures like cartilage, ligaments, and tendons on imaging, helping identify the cause of pain, stiffness, or limited movement.
To keep you comfortable, the area is numbed with a local anesthetic before the injection. A trained imaging specialist uses real-time guidance, such as ultrasound or fluoroscopy, to carefully place a small needle into the joint. Once the contrast is injected, images are taken using X-ray, MRI, or CT to give your doctor detailed information about what's happening inside the joint.
